Listening #134: Circulasione Totale Orchestra, Van Eck, Tushitsua

Fushitsusha—”Untitled 01″ (1978): 15′

Cathy Van Eck – Wings 9′

Circulasione Totale Orchestra—from Open Port – for Johnny Mbizo Dyani and John Stevens
“1 Yellow bass and silver cornet” 15′

Finally, the listening sessions are back in studio 3! This year, I’ll focus mostly on more full albums and such rather than mid to short pieces. Over the years, so many people have come through to these, it’s been a blast.

Don’t have much time but here’s a little overview for you:

FUSHITSUSHA—Japanese psych-rock band in their harsh noise mode. Keiji Haino is on vocals and guitar, Ryosuke Kiyasu on drums and Mitsuru Nasuno on bass.

CATHY VAN ECK–contemporary classical composer with a focus on all kinds of interactive media. I was shocked to see how many performances this piece has, especially considering that I think it’s all happening through feedback (?). In any case it doesn’t look super easy to put on. A very different take on audio feedback

CIRCULASIONE TOTALE ORCHESTRA-bunch of crazy ass norwegians gathered in a room playing some kind of hyperactive madness that sounds almost like free jazz. just kidding, only some of them are norwegian. is it just me or does one of those øs in the name of a band member make it impossible to be seen as anything else . . . .
